Natural Ingredients for Skincare

Grassfed Water Buffalo Tallow — Rendered from our family’s herd of water buffalo, this exceptionally nutritious fat is the basis of all our products. Be sure to read about the amazing benefits of our 100% grassfed tallow here.

Emu crème — This rich oil is high in Vitamins E and K and deeply absorbed in the skin. It’s also a powerful analgesic and anti inflammatory. We source emu oil from a local farm where the birds freely roam dozens of acres of pasture and woods and are given no vaccines, de-wormers, or antibiotics. No preservatives are ever added to the emu oil.Emu oil has many anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties, and is also hypoallergenic! It is known for having an analgesic effect by easing muscle and joint pain without side effects. It also provides topical relief for eczema and psoriasis. Emu crème is simply emu oil that has been spun in a centrifuge to create a creamy texture.

Non-nano Zinc Oxide — Not only is Zinc Oxide incredibly nourishing and anti inflammatory, it is one of the most effect forms of topical sun protection! Zinc Oxide acts a physical sunblock, meaning it is not absorbed into the skin but provides a protective barrier on top. Plus, it’s safe for ocean reefs!  Read more about zinc oxide below.

Direct Trade Coffee — One of our favorite skin-healing secrets. Caffeine tightens fine lines, evens tone, inhibits growth of cancer cells, prevents inflammation, reduces puffiness, dehydrates fatty cells, minimizes the appearance of cellulite and creates a smoothing effect, aids circulation while restricting blood vessels, thus reducing redness including rosacea, acts as a powerful antioxidant and moisturizer, calms irritated skin caused by sun damage. Coffee is really a powerhouse for your skin, and we source it from direct-trade sources that protect workers and the environment.

Raspberry Seed Oil — It’s the perfect addition to our daytime Vitamin C blend! This oil helps filter the sun's rays, and contains a high content of Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) and antioxidant tocopherols. These hydrate the skin and leave it feeling soft and smooth.

Organic Acerola — A powerful source of Vitamin C derived from cherries.

Organic Camu Camu — Derived from a shrub, camu camu berries are a potent source of Vitamin C, amino acids and phytochemicals.

Organic Rosehips — Taken from the part of the rose flower just below the petal, rose hips are also a powerful natural source of Vitamin C.

Organic White Willow Bark — White willow bark is a natural form of salicylic acid, which is a familiar component of many acne treatment products thanks to its anti-inflammatory effects. Salicin can slow signs of aging by reducing the appearance of pores, wrinkles, and pigmentation. Salicin is exfoliating and acne-reducing. It also contains polyphenols that contribute antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects to help protect against sun damage and premature aging.

Organic Plantain — This Native American remedy for rapid skin repair is excellent for anti-wrinkling and a good source of vitamin C.

*Note: We can’t make any claims regarding the SPF rating on this product.  Zinc Oxide provides fabulous UV protection by reflecting and refracting the sun’s rays. Raspberry seed oil is a traditional way to filter the sun’s rays. So while we’re confident you will receive some sun protection from this product, we encourage you to use it with discretion.

More information about Zinc Oxide:

When metallic element Zinc, which occurs naturally in air, water, and soil, is heated along with oxygen. This chemical reaction causes zinc to oxidize. Once both the elements have evaporated and the vapor phase has been condensed into crystals, the result is Zinc Oxide: a fine, white powder, which is known to transmit an electric charge that is reputed to exhibit numerous benefits for several body systems, including the initiation and support of protein synthesis and metabolic function as well as the production of enzymes. For these positive effects, Zinc Oxide has even been an additive in foods. It has particularly ideal results for skin health.

When applied topically, Zinc Oxide remains on the skin’s surface, forming a coating that functions as a protective agent, notably against the harmful effects of UV radiation and environmental irritants. This makes it an ideal additive to skin care products, such as lotions, creams, and ointments, especially those meant for application before exposure to the elements as well as those meant to soothe or prevent itching, infections, and skin damage.

The antiseptic and astringent properties of Zinc Oxide work together to help reduce the risk of bacterial infections by reducing the skin’s permeability and thereby obstructing the path of bacteria before they can adhere to or become internalized by the body. This allows for the faster healing of minor burns, superficial wounds, and warts.

Its thickening, moisturizing, soothing, and tightening properties have made it popular for addition to a vast array of skincare products, such as makeup, anti-dandruff shampoos, and nail products. When applied cosmetically, it keeps the skin hydrated and slows the appearance of the signs of aging by contributing moisture; however, it helps balance both the skin’s oil production, which prevents the skin from appearing shiny. Additionally, it reduces the appearance of enlarged pores, enhances collagen synthesis as well as the regeneration of connective tissue, and it balances the skin tone, which evens out pigmentation.

Zinc Oxide is commonly found in baby care products, such as diaper rash creams and powders, in soaps, in sunscreens, and in foot powders for its ability to form a protective barrier on the skin. It is an ingredient that is known to address the itching, burning, inflammation, redness, dryness, peeling and pain that is characteristic of skin complaints, such as bites, dandruff, acne, eczema, dermatitis, rosacea, and rashes.

Zinc Oxide helps to:

  • Protect against damage caused by overexposure to broad spectrum ultraviolet rays (UVA/UVB)
  • Maintain the appearance of a rejuvenated complexion by enhancing collagen synthesis and reducing the rate of developing signs of aging, such as fine lines and dark spots
  • Regenerate connective tissue as well as new skin
  • Moisturize and restore the health of chapped skin
  • Diminish the appearance of enlarged pores
  • Facilitate the healing of wounded or otherwise damaged skin
  • Calm inflammation
  • Soothe itching, burning, inflammation, redness, dryness, peeling and pain
  • Balance the skin’s natural pigmentation
  • Regulate the production of sebum and interstitial fluid
  • Increase the number of other active and beneficial additives that penetrate the skin, when combined with other products that have rejuvenating effects
  • Enable the healing of diaper rash by creating a protective barrier between the skin and the diaper
  • Allow the oily substances in formulations to penetrate the skin
  • Naturally facilitate the healing of scrapes, abrasions, burns, irritation, rashes, sores, and ulcers

A Game Changer
Written by Mackenzie on Jul 13th 2017

This day balm is a game changer. I'm not great at moisturizing in the morning or wearing sunscreen but this has helped move me in a better direction. It smells of maple donuts (or maybe I just miss them) and protects you from the sun. What more could you really ask for???
