Natural Ingredients for Skincare and Their Benefits
Grassfed Buffalo Tallow — Rendered in house, this exceptionally nutritious fat is the basis of all our products. Be sure to read about the amazing benefits of our 100% grassfed tallow here.
Emu Butter — This rich oil is high in Vitamins E and K and deeply absorbed in the skin. It’s also a powerful analgesic and anti-inflammatory. Emu oil has a balanced fatty acid profile, lending it to many anti-aging properties. It is also hypoallergenic!
Ostrich Butter - Ostrich oil also has a balanced fatty acid profile with many of the same attributes as emu oil, with the addition of Vitamin C. It is known for supporting faster cellular turnover and relieving burns and irritation. It is slightly richer than emu and the two together make a wonderful texture that absorbs rapidly.
Non-nano Zinc Oxide — Not only is Zinc Oxide incredibly nourishing and anti inflammatory, it is one of the most effect forms of topical sun protection! Zinc Oxide acts a physical sunblock, meaning it is not absorbed into the skin but provides a protective barrier on top. Plus, it’s safe for ocean reefs! Read more about zinc oxide below.
Direct Trade Coffee — One of our favorite skin-healing secrets. Caffeine tightens fine lines, evens tone, inhibits growth of cancer cells, prevents inflammation, reduces puffiness, dehydrates fatty cells, minimizes the appearance of cellulite and creates a smoothing effect, aids circulation while restricting blood vessels, thus reducing redness including rosacea, acts as a powerful antioxidant and moisturizer, calms irritated skin caused by sun damage. Coffee is really a powerhouse for your skin, and we source it from direct-trade sources that protect workers and the environment.
*Note: We cannot make any claims regarding the SPF rating on this product. Zinc Oxide provides fabulous UV protection by reflecting and refracting the sun’s rays. We’re confident you will receive some sun protection from this product, approximately the equivalent of 15-20 SPF.
More information about Zinc Oxide:
When metallic element Zinc, which occurs naturally in air, water, and soil, is heated along with oxygen. This chemical reaction causes zinc to oxidize. Once both the elements have evaporated and the vapor phase has been condensed into crystals, the result is Zinc Oxide: a fine, white powder, which is known to transmit an electric charge that is reputed to exhibit numerous benefits for several body systems, including the initiation and support of protein synthesis and metabolic function as well as the production of enzymes. For these positive effects, Zinc Oxide has even been an additive in foods. It has particularly ideal results for skin health.
When applied topically, Zinc Oxide remains on the skin’s surface, forming a coating that functions as a protective agent, notably against the harmful effects of UV radiation and environmental irritants. This makes it an ideal additive to skin care products, such as lotions, creams, and ointments, especially those meant for application before exposure to the elements as well as those meant to soothe or prevent itching, infections, and skin damage.
The antiseptic and astringent properties of Zinc Oxide work together to help reduce the risk of bacterial infections by reducing the skin’s permeability and thereby obstructing the path of bacteria before they can adhere to or become internalized by the body. This allows for the faster healing of minor burns, superficial wounds, and warts.
Zinc Oxide is commonly found in baby care products, such as diaper rash creams and powders, in soaps, in sunscreens, and in foot powders for its ability to form a protective barrier on the skin. It is an ingredient that is known to address the itching, burning, inflammation, redness, dryness, peeling and pain that is characteristic of skin complaints, such as bites, dandruff, acne, eczema, dermatitis, rosacea, and rashes.
Zinc Oxide helps to:
- Protect against damage caused by overexposure to broad spectrum ultraviolet rays (UVA/UVB)
- Maintain the appearance of a rejuvenated complexion by enhancing collagen synthesis and reducing the rate of developing signs of aging, such as fine lines and dark spots
- Regenerate connective tissue as well as new skin
- Moisturize and restore the health of chapped skin
- Diminish the appearance of enlarged pores
- Facilitate the healing of wounded or otherwise damaged skin
- Calm inflammation
- Soothe itching, burning, inflammation, redness, dryness, peeling and pain
- Balance the skin’s natural pigmentation
- Regulate the production of sebum and interstitial fluid
- Increase the number of other active and beneficial additives that penetrate the skin, when combined with other products that have rejuvenating effects
- Enable the healing of diaper rash by creating a protective barrier between the skin and the diaper
- Allow the oily substances in formulations to penetrate the skin
- Naturally facilitate the healing of scrapes, abrasions, burns, irritation, rashes, sores, and ulcers
