The star of our MSM Shampoo Bar - MSM - is a hair softening organic sulfur compound found in rainwater. It is known as a "miracle hair growth enhancer". Some research suggests that MSM combined with magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (MAP), a vitamin C derivative, may support such heathly hair regrowth. Although shampoo is technically just for cleansing hair, we have found this duo to enhance the overall hair washing experience, leaving hair super soft and silky!
Our hair ingredient repertoire has expanded to take advantage of the wonderful new generation of lab-made gentle surfactants available today. Thankfully, increased consumer awareness has driven the demand for much safer ingredients that are also eco-friendly. This means we can have the best of both worlds: safer + high performing. Ingredients that are:
* Gentle / Non-Stripping
* Effective
* Biodegradable
* Safe for commercially color treated hair
* Plastic free
* pH appropriate (approx. 5.5)
* Easy to use
* Free of sulfates, SLS and other harsh surfactants, silicones, parabens, and endocrine disruptors found in artificial fragrance.
* Bonus -- this bar acts also as a body wash and body shaving bar! Talk about saving space when packing for travel.
Ever notice how soft your hair feels after it dries from being in the rain? MSM is an ingredient we love for skin and scalp hydration and repair, which promotes healthy hair growth. It can also be found in our Hydrate Toning Mist.
MSM Shampoo pairs perfectly with our Hyaluronic Conditioner, which can be purchased individually or in a Set. The use of a vinegar rinse is unnecessary with a "syndet" type of Shampoo since the pH is already hair-appropriate. Give them a try! They come in Unscented, Violet Unscented (for gray or blonde hair) or essential oil scented including Floral, Citrus, and Shrub (our popular Rosemary-Cedarwood scent).
You may wonder why we, as a tallow-based brand, did not include tallow in this bar? We found that butters and oils can be added to a syndet type bar at only a very small percentage and at that, caused a slightly weighted feeling for some product testers. The real purpose of shampoo is to get your hair clean and that's it! We concluded that we didn't want to include tallow "just because". We think it is most beneficial in a conditioner, where it's not immediately rinsed off and has a chance to shine, literally!
Our MSM Shampoo is conditioning by design, however, if you have chronically oily hair or really love the idea of washing your hair with tallow, we recommend trying our clarifying Tallow Shampoo Soap.
Important - for longest life of your Shampoo Bar, keep on a well draining soap lift between uses. You may need to remove it from shower in order to completely dry between uses.
Because we chose not to include sulfates or other "itchy" ingredients, these bars do not last as long as our Conditioner Bars.
Directions: Cleansing hair with this type of product is super easy. Wet your hair, wet the bar and rub directly onto your hair, creating a luscious lather. Work lather into your scalp with fingertips. Rinse. Repeat. Follow with one of our Hyaluronic + Tallow Conditioners.
If you are new to silicone free Shampoo, you may experience a transition period, which may include a waxy feeling, itchy scalp, extra oiliness, etc. Most people transition with ease with this type of shampoo, even in hard water. Try our Pit & Scalp Mask for dandruff or to speed up the detox period from a lifelong use of commercial hair products.
Ingredients: Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Propylene Glycol*, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerin, Water, Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (vitamin C), Essential Oils (in scented choices), Decyl Glucoside, Silk Peptides, Mica (Violet contains violet #2 pigment instead).
Essential Oil Blends:
Shrub - An umami duo of Rosemary and Himalayan Cedarwood that's perfect for both men and women.
Citrus - Uplifting and cheerful: Sweet orange, bergamot, pink grapefruit, and lemon. Also gender neutral.
Floral - Relaxing and calming: Lavender, tangerine, geranium, marjoram, palmarosa, and ylang ylang.
*Propylene Glycol has mistakenly and persistently received a bad rap on the internet. It is a safe, food grade preservative that also has a lovely additional benefit as a secondary surfactant in our formulation. Unfortunately, this ingredient has been confused with the very toxic ethylene glycol and thus unjustly demonized. PG has been tested for safety and goes by many names -- it's widely used in the food, beverage, and personal care market (if you eat out you consume it). We urge you not to fear it.
